Rows of grapevines set gently on soft hills. Villa di Ulignano overlooks this magical frame, situated in the
middle of the triangle formed by the cities of
Pisa, Siena and
Florence. Surrounded by a magnificent garden
with centuries old trees, the villa extends over an area of 3
hectares between Volterra, the
closest town, and San Gimignano. The history of a unique and suggestive place Built in the XVII century by
order of the governor of Leghorn and Admiral of the tuscan Navy
Jacopo Inghirami (1565-1623) it was designed by the architect
Gherardo Silvani (1579 - 1675). At the end of the 1960s the famous
Italian film director Luchino Visconti, in Tuscany to
search out filming locations for his film Sandra, came across the
Villa di Ulignano and immediately fell in love. He suggested to his
producer, Franco Cristaldi,
purchasing the villa. Thus began a new page in the history of the
villa, with the villa now a place where great minds came to think,
breathe and make films in an environment of carefree and creative
harmony: la dolce vita was no longer solely
a Roman phenomenon. Love and memories bind those of us who work with the villa to this place; there is a certain passion and devotion that keep the villa alive, combining the past and the present in a delicate balance to create a magical atmosphere. We do hope that this atmosphere will permeate your visit here, so that the days you pass at the Villa di Ulignano will become part of the rich and distinctive history of these walls... |
